In today’s job market, posting a job online can bring a multitude of candidates, but unfortunately, not all of them are qualified for the position. This can make the search for the right applicant a daunting task for small and mid-sized businesses. According to a recent survey conducted by Indeed, 77% of small business owners are struggling to find the right candidate to fill their open roles, with 58% having one to four open roles. With job postings on Indeed being 53% higher than the pre-pandemic baseline as of July 2022 and 1.9 job openings for every unemployed person, finding the right candidate quickly is crucial to the success of the hiring process.
To help small businesses find the right candidate faster, Greg Powell, the Senior Director of SMB Experience Marketing at Indeed, suggests using tools that provide speed and take tasks off the small business owners in evaluating people. Indeed helps by screening, skills testing, and automating scheduling to quickly narrow down the qualified applicants.
Furthermore, Powell advises small businesses to provide a very detailed job description that includes the exact pay for the position. By providing job pay transparency, businesses can attract double the applicants. In addition, Powell advocates for companies to bring their personality, culture, and community involvement into their ad to attract the right people.
Indeed also has a “job title recommendation engine” that provides businesses with the exact words to attract qualified candidates. By using such a tool, businesses can ensure that their job postings reach the right audience.
