Of the businesses currently utilizing AI, an overwhelming 91% state that it has contributed to their success. When examining AI’s potential impact on marketing specifically, the survey results indicate that 70% of small business owners would be willing to pay higher fees for a marketing platform that incorporates AI or automation tools. Furthermore, 60% of current AI users credit the technology with enabling them to work more efficiently, ultimately saving time. Additionally, 33% estimate that utilizing AI or automation saves them over 40 minutes per week on marketing tasks.

While many small business owners recognize the potential of AI, there are still concerns and gaps in understanding. Approximately 74% of respondents express interest in using AI or automation, but 46% admit to having only a beginner’s understanding of its benefits. Social media improvement ranks as the top marketing area for 52% of small businesses in the next year. Notably, data security, perceived cost, and the learning curve stand out as the main concerns small businesses have regarding AI.

 

Gen Z Entrepreneurs: A Look into the Future

Despite their perception of having fewer economic opportunities than previous generations, Generation Z entrepreneurs have made significant strides in the business world. The Gen Z Entrepreneur Report from Square revealed that 39% of these young entrepreneurs aspire to earn enough money to start another business or side hustle. Additionally, 39% already own businesses with five or more employees.

Financing their ventures, 45% of Gen Z entrepreneurs used their personal savings, with a higher percentage of women (53%) relying on personal funds compared to men (38%). Moreover, a staggering 80% of Gen Z entrepreneurs began their businesses online or incorporated a mobile component. Furthermore, 46% of respondents launched their businesses with physical locations to facilitate omnichannel operations.

 

Understanding the Needs of Gen Z Employees

For businesses employing members of Generation Z, it is crucial to grasp what these young workers desire from their jobs. The Young Adults and Workplace Wellness Survey conducted by Georgetown University and Bank of America provides some key insights into the preferences of Gen Z and younger millennial employees.

Paid time off and flexible work schedules emerge as top priorities for 65% and 58% of respondents, respectively, when contemplating job changes. Additionally, most Gen Z workers (73%) seek benefits that can transition with them if they switch jobs.

Other notable findings from the survey highlight the financial struggles faced by Gen Z employees. Approximately 44% of respondents have outstanding student loans or consumer debt, and among them, 49% prioritize paying off the debt over saving for retirement. The survey also indicates a desire among Gen Z employees for improved workplace wellness programs. Only 24% of respondents “strongly agree” that their employers have adequate policies or structures in place to support work-life balance.

Furthermore, the survey suggests limited loyalty among young workers, as 68% view work primarily as a means to make a living, rather than a source of identity or personal fulfillment. An alarming 54% of respondents plan to switch fields or careers, with 46% intending to do so within the next year.
